MARINE RESOURCES COUNCIL - BE PART OF THE NEXT CHAPTER FOR LAGOON WATCH

Be Part of the Next Chapter for LagoonWatch

Marine Resources Council

I’m excited to share that our LagoonWatch program is getting a much-needed upgrade—thanks to the generosity of our members and a grant from the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program. As one of Marine Resources Council’s longest-running efforts, LagoonWatch has empowered local volunteers to collect critical water quality data for decades. With your help, we’re modernizing the program to meet today’s highest standards for data collection and reporting.

Across the 156-mile stretch of the Indian River Lagoon, water quality data is gathered by a network of agencies, organizations, and dedicated community scientists like our MRC volunteers. These numbers—tracking things like nitrogen, phosphorus, turbidity, and salinity—are more than just data points. They’re the foundation for understanding the health of the Lagoon, the wildlife that depends on it, and the people who call this region home.

This upgrade means that—for the first time in years—our LagoonWatch data will meet the rigorous criteria required to be included in our Indian River Lagoon Health Report. If you haven’t seen it yet, last year we launched a new digital dashboard to make this annual report more accessible and actionable, integrating key water quality data from across the IRL. With our new monitoring standards in place, I’m proud that LagoonWatch will once again contribute directly to that effort.

These are big steps forward, but we can’t do it alone. If you believe in the power of community science and want to support transparent, accessible data that drives real change for our Lagoon, please consider making a donation today. Your gift helps keep programs like LagoonWatch going strong.

Thank you for being part of this important work. More updates soon as LagoonWatch enters its next chapter!
